NOTA BENE

Privacy Policy

Effective 9 September 2026

Nota Bene is a personal record-keeping Android app developed and published by Andy J Myers. Its records stay on your device unless you deliberately export them.

Records you choose to keep

Nota Bene stores the names, notes, completion states, repeat intervals, quantities and dates that you choose to put in your own collections. You decide what to enter and accept.

These records are stored in Nota Bene’s local database on your device. There is no Nota Bene account or developer-operated server. The developer cannot see your records. Nota Bene does not sell them, use them for advertising or transmit them to the developer.

Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer of Nota Bene app data are disabled. Losing, clearing or replacing the phone without an explicit export may therefore lose the records.

Speech input

When you choose speech input, Nota Bene launches the speech-recognition service installed on your phone. That service may process audio under its provider’s settings and privacy policy. Nota Bene does not retain audio; it keeps only text you accept. Keyboard entry remains available.

Image-text input

When you choose PHOTO or GALLERY, Nota Bene uses Google ML Kit text recognition to read text from the selected image on the device. The image and recognised text are not sent by Nota Bene to the developer. ML Kit may collect limited device, app and performance information for diagnostics and usage analytics under Google’s published policy.

Explicit export

The Export XLSX control opens Android’s save picker and creates a workbook only when you request it. You choose where to save it. A cloud-storage destination may upload and process the workbook under that provider’s terms. Protect exported workbooks as sensitive data.

Retention and deletion

Records remain on the device until you delete them, use Erase all local data in Settings, clear Nota Bene storage in Android settings or uninstall the app. Erase all local data removes Nota Bene collections and records on the device. Previously exported copies must be deleted separately from wherever you saved them.

Nota Bene has no account, so there is no separate account-deletion process. Google or a speech provider may retain its own limited service data under its published policy.

Security

Nota Bene relies on Android’s application sandbox and the security of your phone. Its local database is not separately encrypted by Nota Bene. No storage or security mechanism can be guaranteed completely secure.

Children

Nota Bene is intended for adults and is not directed at children. The developer does not knowingly collect children’s information through a developer-operated service.

Changes

This policy will be updated when Nota Bene’s functionality or data handling changes. The effective date above will be revised.
